| CONSUMER CREDIT DIRECTIVE - DOOD respond to the UK government's supplemetary consultation. |
Debt on our Doorstep have responded to a Department of Trade & Industry (DTI - UK Government) consultation on the European Consumer Credit Directive and have called for the DTI to engage with stakeholders concerning its position on the mutual recognition principle, on the responsible lending requirement, and on licensing requirements in a harmonised market. Debt on our Doorstep believes that these are fundamental areas on which there has been little public debate in the UK, and has asked the DTI to seek a debate in the UK Parliament on these matters prior to the conclusion of the debate on the Directive in the EU.
DOOD have also called for the DTI to conduct an impact assessment, from the consumer perspective, that will set out clearly which consumer protections could be threatened and the degree to which these could be reduced by the proposed Directive. |
